Secret Gardens Design is an Edinburgh based company run by award winning garden designer Carolyn Grohmann. Carolyn’s designs have appeared widely in the press including Gardens Illustrated, The Guardian, The Sunday Times, Homes and Interiors Scotland, RHS The Garden and The English Garden.
Carolyn’s designs range from small courtyard spaces to large country gardens. She provides a full design service including overseeing the construction and planting of each garden. Increasingly she works alongside architects as part of the wider design team as clients seek to ensure the design and functionality of their garden matches that of their house.
Her design style is rich in planting with a contemporary twist to structures and hard-landscaping features. She seeks elegant solutions to practical problems and creates peaceful gardens which give pleasure and solace in an often abrasive world. Sustainability is key to Carolyn’s designs, their construction and their maintenance and she strives to steer clients towards designs which are gentle on the environment.
The success of this garden is hardly serendipitous... its apparently simple grace was achieved though meticulous attention to detail.
Some guests at a summer BBQ this year commented that they felt they were sitting in an issue of Gardens Illustrated – that’s the Carolyn effect.
With a natural blend of creative thinking and pragmatism, Carolyn is perceptive and thoughtful in approach. Carolyn’s garden designs are not only beautiful on paper but they’ve also provided a garden we love. We’re big fans of Carolyn.
Carolyn helped us turn our breeze-block wasteland into a tranquil oasis of calm and flowering beauty. We are thankful to have had such a peaceful environment to escape to during lockdown and beyond.
